Also called
the Loyalty Block, the Loyalty Building originally housed the headquarters for
Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. The carving above the entrance: Organized
A.D 1852, Erected A.D. 1886 refers to the founding of the company and the
completion of construction.
Built by Solon Spencer Beman, this granite office building was designed in the
Romanesque style popularized by H.
H. Richardson . The front has nine bays with a central emphasis in the middle
three (which are somewhat taller). The round entrance arch is flanked by marble
columns with decorative carved capitals. National
